Listening Glyphs for Weather Songs

Weather songs are fun songs! These listening glyphs give your students an opportunity to listen to some music in several genres and give you an opportunity to assess their understanding of some basic music concepts in a fun and easy way.

A glyph is a pictorial representation of data. These clever worksheets ask students to color each portions of the picture based on what they hear. These glyphs were designed for use with some specific songs with a weather theme. Some have a specific performer listed and some do not. Each glyph asks students to listen for 4-5 things in a piece. Some of the concepts covered: loud or soft/quiet, fast or slow, instrument family identification, genre and more.

There are actually 2 versions of each Weather Song listening glyph.
10- Designed for primary grades, students are asked to listen for basics like tempo, dynamics, instruments, etc.

10- Identical listening glyphs for each of the songs listed below, designed for older students. Although the pictures are the same, students are asked to identify “vocalists” instead of “singers”, “forte” and “piano” instead of loud and soft/quiet, “largo” and “presto” instead of slow and fast and so on.

Listening glyphs are included for:
“Little April Showers” (From Bambi)
“Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” by B.J. Thomas
“I Love a Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbitt
“Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows” by Lesley Gore
“Rainbow Connection” by Kermit the Frog
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (no performer listed, but I prefer the version by Jewel)
“Here Come the Sun” (no performer listed, but I prefer the Beatles’ version)
“Sunshine on My Shoulder” by John Denver
“Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers
“Castle on a Cloud” (no performer listed)
